- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoAcceptance, adaptation and adoption: The key to colombian refugees in New Zealand overcoming barriers of belonging(Pensamiento Americano, 2022-04-26) López Severiche, Alfredo José; Corporación Universitaria AmericanaThis article examines the barriers of integration that Colombian refugees confront in New Zealand, including culture shock, lack of English, unemployment, discrimination, relationship with others and issues of identity. It argues for a three-pronged framework of acceptance, adaptation and adoption in facilitating integration. Thirteen Colombian refugees resettled from Ecuador took part in this research, who came to New Zealand between 2007 and 2014. Objective: This research seeks to explore the barriers that impact the integration of Colombian refugees in New Zealand. Also, to fill this gap in the literature by providing new knowledge on the subject already described. Methodology: The qualitative methodological approach of this study is an ethnographic collection of oral stories. Oral history interviews, a focus group and personal diaries were used as data collection methods. Results: The findings of this study show that Colombian refugees face challenges that put at risk their integration into New Zealand’s society, the main challenges faced by them are culture shock, lack of English, unemployment, discrimination, relationship with others and issues of identity. Conclusion: Despite the challenges already mentioned, the development of qualities such as acceptance, adaptation and adoption has contributed to overcoming these barriers and achieving their integration in New Zealand
- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoLos procesos de integración en Suramérica: Una mirada desde sus objetivos fundacionales(Pensamiento Americano, 2012-02-26) Bocanegra Jiménez, María Andrea; Sello editorial CoruniamericanaEn el presente artículo de reflexión abordaremos el tema de los procesos de integración en Suramérica desde el punto de vista de su conformación y objetivos de integración, para evidenciar si se ha dado la influencia del neoconstitucionalismo, paradigma presente en las Cartas Constitucionales de América Latina, en cada uno de los procesos a estudiar. Tomaremos como punto de partida el análisis de lo que se conoce como integración y abordaremos el estudio de los principales procesos dados en Suramérica, su formación, su vida jurídico institucional, para por último abordar los objetivos trazados en cada organismo, y si ello responde o no a las expectativas de la defensa de los derechos fundamentales de primera, segunda y tercera generación.

The main reason for conducting this investigation was the lack of academic research on Latin American refugees and Immigrants in New Zealand. Objective: The purpose of this research is to contribute to the development of research on Latin American people in New Zealand, to discover the factors that impact the quality of life of these people in New Zealand, and what can be done to improve their quality of life. Methodology: Ethnographic and autoethnographic were the methodologies used in this study. Also, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 participants. Results: The findings of this research show that the definitions of quality of life given by the participants are aligned with those of the academic literature. For example, the participants believe that quality of life means having sufficient financial resources to live with dignity. They also think that it is necessary to feel at peace, tranquillity, happy and safe to enjoy a true quality of life. Conclusion: In summary, this research presents the definitions of quality of life given by Latin American refugees and immigrants in New Zealand and the factors that contribute to quality of life.
